Summary/Abstract: The year 1954 came after the tensest moment of the Romanian-American relations − 1953. But the death of Stalin and the new administration that came to power in USSR slightly loosened the relations between the two rival blocs. This was also reflected in the ties between Romania with the West. In 1954 there have been small signs of courtesy shown by the Americans on the occasion of 23 August or the welcoming of the new Minister of Romania, Anton Moisescu, but the Romanian-American relations remained distant and cautious. The teasing regarding the issue of the Romanian diplomats traveling across the United States continued and the representatives from Bucharest were still regarded as spies and communist propagandists. The diplomatic tensions related to the switching off of the transceiver device and the purchase of prohibited goods confirmed to the Americans that the Easterners were not willing to comply with all the American laws. However, in this year, through the exchange of letters between Eisenhower and Dej, the issue of Rică Georgescu’s children was solved. In conclusion, we can affirm that the year 1954 was a year of transition between the paroxysm of the Cold War in 1952−1953 and the small détente period during 1955−1956.
