Summary/Abstract: The paper presents the international cinema of the 1920s reflected in the articles of the Romanian avant-garde reviews Contimporanul, 75 HP, Integral and unu. These articles survey experimental cinema and commercial movies, through which actors like Charlie Chaplin or Douglas Fairbanks became international stars. Despite the popularity and the mass success of the new art, not only did the authors of the articles appreciate the artistic qualities of the cinema productions, but they also criticized the tendencies to excessive commercialization or hermeticism.
