TRANSCENDENCE OF THE MUNDANE. DIMENSIONS OF THE MARVELOUS IN CARMEN SYLVA'S FAIRY TALES AND STORIES

Summary/Abstract: Abstract Elisabeth of Wied (1843-1916) a renowned poet with the pen name of Carmen Sylva, was the queen of Romania in 1881 and has worked between 1880 and 1916 as a writer and a translator. This paper presents some literary and historical aspects of the fairy tales and stories published under the title Aus Carmen Sylvas Königreich / From Carmen Sylva’s Kingdom. Through the analysis of the texts we relate them on one hand with the romantic poetic of the marvelous and on the other hand, with modern fantastic fiction for children and youth. Zusammenfassung Elisabeth von Wied (1843-1916), mit dem Dichternamen Carmen Sylva, war ab 1881 die Königin von Rumäniens und, in der Zeitspanne von 1880–1916, war sie als Schriftstellerin und Übersätzerin tätig. In der vorliegenden Arbeit werden einige literaturhistorische Dimensionen der unter dem Titel Aus Carmen Sylvas Königreich veröffentlichten Märchen und Geschichten vorgestellt und, anhand von Textanalyse, wird einerseits die Relation dieser Texte mit der in der deutschen Romantik entwickelten Poetik des Wunderbaren, andererseits mit der phantastischen Kinder- und Jugendliteratur nachgewiesen. Rezumat Elisabeth von Wied (1843-1916), cunoscută ca poetă sub pseudonimul Carmen Sylva, a fost din 1881 regina României şi în perioada 1880–1916 a activat ca scriitoare şi traducătoare. În prezenta lucrare sunt prezentate unele aspecte literar-istorice ale basmelor şi povestirilor publicate sub titlul Aus Carmen Sylvas Königreich/ Din regatul lui Carmen Sylva, iar prin intermediul analizei de text relaţionăm aceste texte, pe de o parte cu poetica romantică a fabulosului, pe de alta cu literatura contemporană fantastică pentru copii şi tineret.
