Summary/Abstract: If half a century ago the term of “modernism” was almost unknown, today it proves to be indispensable for the history of art. In the present article we have tried, on one hand, to point out some of the issues raised by the use of such a term, and on the other, to outline some ways to overcome these difficulties.
