The National Corpus of Polish – from the lexicographer’s point of view. Remarks and suggestions related to work on the Great Dictionary of Polish

Summary/Abstract: The paper contains some thoughts on the work of lexicographers – the authors of the emerging PAN {Great Dictionary of Polish} (pol. {Wielki słownik języka polskiego PAN}, WSJP) – with the National Corpus of Polish, which is the main source database for this dictionary. The paper discusses three aspects: 1) the method of using corpus data for various lexicographical tasks; 2) technical problems which impede work with the corpus; 3) suggestions of changes into the structure of the corpus which should be introduced inorder to make it more useful for lexicographers and other linguists in the future.
