Summary/Abstract: The article is dedicated to probably the most influential edition in the history of folklore studies in Bulgaria, the “Collection of Folk Lore” (SbNU), published since 1889 up to the present time. The author discusses the emergence of this collection in the context of intense formation of the Bulgarian national idea in the second half of the 19lh century. The changing editorial conception of the Collection within the interwar period is discussed in the context of the shifting public ideas of the Bulgarian nationhood.
