The Alteration of Socioeconomical Situation in Rural Areas of Lithuania

Summary/Abstract: The main problem of Lithuania’s rural areas is improvement of life quality throughout the new system of employment and creation of new social infrastructure for all rural population. Solution of unemployment problems in rural Lithuania is directly connected with possibilities of inhabitants to operate small farms and to develop small-scale non-agricultural businesses. Our historical perspective is to create a society of successful owners but not hinds, and also to restore independent rural communities. This research showed that only one of five rural inhabitants is involved directly in agriculture, and this is the main source of his livelihood.
