Summary/Abstract: In our present paper, we have endeavoured to rethink an element of agrarian history, the postwar land reforms, from a comparative perspective. We have transcended national narratives and compared the Hungarian with Poland on the one hand, and East Germany on the other. In the first half of our paper we compared the competing land reform visions of different parties in Poland and Hungary, in the second we compared the mechanics of distributing the feudal large estates in the Soviet Occupation Zone and Hungary.
