Summary/Abstract: Kosovo has always been one of the most rapidly burning detonation cords of the Balkans “powder-barrel”. The province – nowadays officially called Kosovo and Metohija (Kosmet) – is neither large, nor particularly rich, although its geographical location, as well as its material supplies may make it appear as a tempting target for both external powers and for internal forces.2 Notwithstanding it is not really economic issues, which stand in the scope of this study, but more deeply-rooted problems and even more dangerous factors that seem to have been in existence since time immemorial: human sentiments, ancient traditions of different peoples, cultures, religions, and last but not least geopolitical interests. Kosovo is regarded as a land of its own by two nations, Serbs and Albanians; a conflict that looks more problematic in view of the fact that both parties’ claims are more or less acceptable, although none of them had had the opportunity to freely dispose of this territory throughout most of their history.[...]
