Summary/Abstract: The author analysed adiscussion about the origin of the Spanish corrida within the perspective of theses about its native (Iberian) character and attempts at undermining the vision of Europe as aworld which “since time immemorial” has witnessed globalisation (the migrations of people and animals, the dissemina- tion of cultural contents, trade exchange, war con- flicts, colonisation and political impact). Prime reflec- tions pertain to the cultural identity of toro bravo wi- thin the context of the presence of the bull in the my- thologies, religions and art of numerous cultures (the Mediterranean basin).
