Summary/Abstract: The author begins the article with the explanation of the terminology which she uses in the text, and presents profiles of the first collectors and connoisseurs of Polish folklore. One of the enthusiasts and collectors of Kashubian folklore was Jan Michał Wieczorek (1904–1980) from the city of Toruń – a composer, conductor, teacher and organizer of musical life. The article presents Wieczorek’s preparations for the expedition around the region of Kashuby with prof. Lucjan Kamieński. It describes its objectives and course, toured places, people met and the results of this expedition. The author also focuses her attention on the employment of Kashubian folklore in the compositions by Wieczorek. Folklore elements have been indicated in his instrumental, chamber, symphonic, choral and also theatrical compositions: in regional performances and in "Jan of Kolno" opera. The simple melicus of the melodies of folk songs in the compositions by Wieczorek has been compiled with a new musical language, which goes beyond the major-minor system, and the original melicus.
