Summary/Abstract: The author demonstrates the significance of folk culture and its evolution in the context of historical events in the region of Hlučin. She proves that economic, social and psychological conditions meant that the inhabitants of Hlučin created their own folk culture. The region of Hlučin attracted attention of many folklorists, ethnomusicologists and ethnologists in the nineteenth and twentieth century. Hlučin folklore was regarded by researchers as representative for the region of Silesia. However, in the mid-twentieth century, it was observed that the residents of Hlučin began to lose their interest in folk culture. Tradition started to give way to modernity in their lives. The 70s and 80s brought back the former splendor of folk culture, which reappeared in the family houses and cultural centres, and was promoted by the activity of Opava Matrix. Today it constitutes great spiritual material and symbolic wealth of its inhabitants.
