Summary/Abstract: European Union’scitizenship is an essential part of the European political integration process and a product of the effort to create a union’s citizenship. One of the most important subjects of the integration process today started with European Coal and Steel Community which has established withinthe Treaty of Rome(1957) is to maintain a common identity. Till the Treaty of Maastricht (1993), several steps have been undertaken for the purpose of creating a common identity. After this treaty, several regulations have been also setabout citizenship through the treaties ofAmsterdam (1997) Nice (2001) and Lisbon (2007) as well.However it cannot be said that the idea of the EU’s common citizenship is fullydeveloped.
