Summary/Abstract: In this paper we introduce the Ego Network Quality(ENQ) index, which quantifies the value ofknowledge accessible from knowledge networksthrough, taking into consideration both direct andindirect partners in the network. The indexintegrates three aspects of network position. First, ittakes into account the knowledge level of partners, which is a novelty in comparison with standardnetwork indicators. Second, it weighs knowledgelevels with an indicator reflecting the structure oflinks between partners, focusing on networkstructure. Third, not only the knowledge level andnetwork structure of direct partners but also thoseof the indirect ones are accounted for. It is shownthat the ENQ index can be linked to already knownnetwork indicators in special cases. Simulationexercises are used to verify that the ENQ index canreflect the position of a node i within the network ina robust way, and the selection of distcane andstructure weighting is only secondary importance.
