Summary/Abstract: New etymologies are proposed for Lithuanian kamanos ‘bridle’, kamienas ‘stem’, kumelė ‘mare’. It is argued that they are connected with the IE root *(s)kem- ‘press, hinder, squeeze’. Ethnological evidence is adduced in discussing the etymologies proposed thus far.
