Summary/Abstract: The aim of this article is to present the influence of orphic thought upon the Hellenistic account of progress present in the comedy and tragedy of that time. Hellenistic science and philosophy have been substantially interested in explaining origins and development of human society. The research for origins left significant hallmarks in the preserved fragments of post-Eurypidean drama. The article concentrates especially on the fragment 6 by Moschion (TrGF 97) and the only preserved fragment of Samothracians by Athenion (PCG 1 Athenio). It shows various sources for the ideas on time (Chronos) and progress of the human kind visible in these dramas with a special account of Orphism. It collates the existing fragments of dramas with the testimonies handed over by Diodorus Siculus (especially the fragments of Hecataeus of Abdera), Sextus Empiricus and Demosthenes.
