Summary/Abstract: The article describes the causes of preservation of the epic traditions in the regions of Kazakhstan, the history of genre, social conditions defining its origin and local distinctive features of the basic schools. The main stress is on the two large epic traditions of Kazakhstan, which are: Kyzylorda's and Mangystau's. The article presents the similarity of some typological characteristics of epos of different nations that is taken from analysis of these characteristics.
