Summary/Abstract: Karel Herrmann (after the war Heřman) was a Czech-Jewish clerk, deported to Terezin with one of the earliest transports. He was fortunate to obtain a favourable position in the ghetto self-administration, in the Evidenzabteilung. Dealing with statistics and registration, Herrmann was able to move around the ghetto and collect information. Keen in socialising and culture, he became active in the cultural activities in the ghetto. Moreover, he started collecting items connected with Terezin cultural life and beyond, thus creating a unique collection of self-fabricated posters, poems, lectures and many more. The Herrmann couple survived the war; Ms. Heřmanová sold majority of the collection to the Terezin Memorial Archives.
