Summary/Abstract: The authors present a report from the 2013 Dublin Theatre Festival, the most important and the oldest theatrical festival in Ireland. The festival presentations are analysed as examples of a carefully designed programme to construct a sense of ethnicity and belonging which the Irish consider very important in the age of globalized culture. Most of the productions and projects reflect a particular concept of locality and a feeling for the local place. At the same time a lot of presentations disappoint, as they do not offer a reliable and verifiable view of current problems which contemporary Ireland needs to face. The article presents the analyses of individual productions, artistic creeds of their creators as well as wider cultural mechanisms which determine the development of the Irish national stage.
