Summary/Abstract: The concentration camp Warschau belonged by August 1944 (?) among the first Nazi camps to be evacuated. Set up in summer 1943 on the are of former Warsaw ghetto, it was one of 24 „Konzentrationshauptlager“, main concentration camps. In May 1944 the „Arbeitslager Warschau (work camp Warsaw), were out into direct command of Majdanek. By the end of July 1944, when the Red Army had liberated Majdanek, the Nazis (?) decided to liquidate the camp. The article at hand shows, that while the evacuation was quite comparable to other ones as far as concentration camps are concerned, it was quite different to the mass departure of other prisons in Warsaw, which took place simultaneously. Last but not least the article discusses who was in charge of the liquidation, local Nazis decision-makers and room for maneuver the prisoners had developed.
