Summary/Abstract: Despite all the difficulties experienced by Russia in the 90s, the crash of the Soviet Union didn’t stop the evolution of theatre in Russia. The collapse of Soviet Union put Russia under a fundamental process of transformation, economically, socially, politically and culturally. In a different reality, an old theatrical expression became inadequate. This led to the birth of a new generation of playwrights, with a strong influence on Russian culture. Showing creativity, the new wave reflected problems of post-soviet period. The new generation of writers have managed to transform the last twenty years, influencing both Russian Theatre and Russian Cinematography. An example is the independent theatre Teatr.doc from Moscow, wich created a new current – documentary dramaturgy – placing it among other important currents of the new wave.
