Summary/Abstract: The modernity of educational content is determined by innovations/novelties. Innovation is associated with social novelties for competencies education. Educational content includes students’ experience, teaching programmes, teaching (learning) methods and context, evaluation methods for students’ achievements and advancements, and means of teaching (learning). Educational content is a complicated and complex phenomenon turning into reality only in a specific class where a teacher interacts with a schoolchild. In the contemporary world the successful language teaching (learning) gives a possibility of feeling a fully fledged member of the society, a possibility of participating in cultural and social life, and a possibility of consolidating in the labour market. Thus, language learning should be a continuous process typical of various age groups. In the century of fast-changing information, topical content of teaching material and different attitude to teaching (learning) itself presumably might be useful for language learning. The aim of this article is to analyse the historical context of language teaching (learning) methods in the contemporary conception of education. The objectives are the following: 1) to discuss the conditions determining successful language learning process; 2) to list preconditions for modernity of educational content; 3) to introduce the methods of modern language learning.
