Summary/Abstract: Researchers of the Northern Samogitian subdialect are inclined not to pay attention to the accent of the reflexive affix of the prefixal verbs; even though there are plenty of such examples in texts of the dialect, they are not usually included into the explanations of accentuation peculiarities. V. Vitkauskas and A. Girdenis are the only linguists who published some deliberations concerning this question. V. Vitkauskas related such accentuation to the retraction of accent; on the contrary, A. Girdenis considered the accent of reflexive affix not as retractional but as ancient. Having summarized the examples of the Northern Samogitian subdialect, it is estimated that there are two types of accentuation of the reflexive affix: 1) a reflexive affix of the penultimate syllable can gain the accent if a further final syllable is innately short or circumflex; 2) the reflexive affix is accentuated when the accent of the affix and a further (main) accent are separated by mediate syllables. In the first case the accentuation of the reflexive affix can be related to the retraction of accent indirectly as it is influenced by an emphatic position. The second type of accentuation is evidently connected with the prosodic structure of the word and with the detachment of accents. A major variability of the second type shows rather free selection of the place of the accent.
