Summary/Abstract: In Germany people speak similarly, yet differently. The literary language is accompanied by many slang forms, as well as by linguistic dialectal forms, which are regionally linked, lead an independent life and even influence the literary language. The two dialectal regions presented in this paper, the Palatine and the Rhenish dialect belong to the same dialectal space, Middle German and present numerous common lexical and phonetic features, as well as differences in pronunciation and vocabulary (words having a French influence can be found in the Palatine dialect).
