Summary/Abstract: Nihilism is accompanying us increasingly in everyday life as well as in scientific and philosophical language argumentation. The article analyses nihilism as a parameter of postmodern era. The authors look into the reasons that determined the formation of this parameter and the expression of it on various levels of the society. The article puts specific emphasis on the importance of the value dimension and the influence of it on the state governance, reforms and public administration. The authors reveal that nihilism is to be treated as a significant factor of cultural resistance affecting thenew public governance currently formed. Taking into consideration the entrenchment of nihilism, the possibilities to assess self-transcendence as a postmodern value are suggested in the article. Self-transcendence in the public governance culture could sufficiently enrich democratization, moral behaviour with the citizens, real, not declarative orientation to public interest, participation of communities and non-governmental organizations and enable political will.
