The Effects of Plunderography

Summary/Abstract: The article presents an analysis of Levitates, a painting by Richard Woźniak from 2009. As a background for the work, the artist photographed, and then transferred to canvas a fragment of the project 'Between' – one of the most well-known text-objects by the Polish concrete poet Stanislaw Dróżdż. The article shows how Woźniak disfigures these fragments of the poet’s work using various means, while maintaining a recognizable resemblance to the original. These activities were labelled by Wozniak as plunderography (this was also the title of an exhibition of his work held in Gallery Appendix 2 in Warsaw).
