Summary/Abstract: This paper is a contribution to the emerging socio-demographic literature on same-sex couples. In this context two different data sets are analysed for the case of Germany. Over time the size of quasi-marriages in Germany (so called registered same-sex unions) is three times higher since the legalisation in 2001. To sum up, the date sets show how mixed and registered same-sex unions differ in terms of socio-economic determinants. For instance, registered same-sex unions are clustered in ISCO groups 1 and 2. The quasi-marriages have less children, and are a phenomenon of large Western German cities.
