The dark side of the port city. The phenomenon of prostitution in postwar Szczecin (1950's)

Summary/Abstract: The aim of the article is to describe the phenomenon of prostitution in postwar Szczecin (50’s). Specificity ofprostitution depends on the period of its occurrence. Social, economic and political changes influence the natureof prostitution as it was observed in Poland in the fifties of the XXth century. The aim of the article was to presentthe contextual analysis of prostitution and the connected phenomena in Szczecin paying attention to both socialand medical dimensions of prostitution.
