Summary/Abstract: Public servants are entrusted with the task of working for the common interest. They are associated with the authority of the state and they need to support the rule of law and to implement the government policy. Ethics in public service serves as a mechanism that affects the reputation of the authorities, organizations and institutions in public. In highly developed countries ethical codes of conduct are increasingly becoming the rule. Connecting to the contemporary processes of globalization and European integration imposes the need of ethical conduct. Public administration, as an area where it is developing a lot of relationships with individuals, institutions and society in general, makes a link between the individual, institutional and social ethics.
