Summary/Abstract: At the beginning of the year 1930, in the preface of the third volume of documents regarding the life and the political activity of Ion C. Bratianu, professor Constantin C. Giurescu realizes that at that point (70 years ago), the Romanian historiography dedicated two consistent biographies for Mihai Viteazul and Stefan cel Mare and other less important Romanian princes, but none for Carol I, the first king of Romania. The article comments on the fact that Carol I asked for a Crown Council precisely calculated for the date 24 July – 3 August: what were the reasons that he did so and the connection with the beginnimng of the first world war. The article also contains comments about an interesting (and anonymous) paper found in the library of the Romanian historian Nicolae Iorga: “The Near East from within”.
