Summary/Abstract: The foreword gives an overview of Darwin's theory in the context of its era, as well as the theory's implications for the humanities. It gives an outline of the modes and possibilities of using evolutionary ideas in literary studies: on the level of a work's „represented world,” in studies of the evolution of literary forms, as well as in postmodern currents associated with gender and animal studies.
