Summary/Abstract: The article speaks about life and work, especially about poetry of Janko Bubalo, who became one of the most important Herzegovinian writers. Bubalo appeared in literature while he was in high school, however, the decision to publish his first collection of poetry came after almost five decades of his work. Bubalo published his literary works in many Croatian journals such as Luč, Ruža, Hrvatska smotra, Crkva na kamenu and in anthology Stopama otaca, where he was also an editor. Thematic distribution of Bubalo’s poetry is very diverse. However, the author prefers patriotic and contemplative poetry, particularly when referring to the history of Croats. Bubalo’s poetry is mainly written in free verse, liberated of all poetic norms. His modernity is also confirmed in the way of building lines and selection of poetic language. Besides poetry, Bubalo wrote about phenomenon of Medjugorje apparitions and events related to the murder of his fellow F ranciscans in Široki Brijeg. Janko Bubalo became the first priest in the Croatian Writers’ Association. F or special merits in culture he was awarded the Order of Danica hrvatska, with figure of Marko Marulić, in 1996.
