Summary/Abstract: When I accepted the invitation to participate in this significant meeting I found myself in a dilemma: What would I have to say when I am not preoccupied by practical policy and organised humanitarian activities, but mainly by theoretical questions of practical philosophy? I've directly experienced the drama of the existential situation and the moral dilemmas as has every citizen of Sarajevo and Bosnia, and not as a contemplative observer. So I can't be silent, I must speak theoretically and practically from my own experience. I'd like to mention in passing a scientific meeting organised by "Merhamet" in September 1993, the theme of which was "Human aspects of charitable organisations working in conditions of war". I wrote a short unpublished text "In praise of charitable organisations". The same year, the famous Sarajevo Forum of Cultural Resistance organised a round table on the theme "What is humanism for?" There, I defended the principles of humanism that were dying in Bosnia and condemned hypocrisy.
