Summary/Abstract: Looking at the opposing discursive and political strategies of Serbia in the 1990s, the text examines the nature of wondering about the “path” this community chose. It suggests that there are benefits to rejecting the dramatic fatefulness of this question, and even holds a certain truthfulness in the commonsensical antihistorical conception, nihil novum. The conclusion, however, also expresses the limits of the proverb’s validity, that is, the justification of its argumentative function as a corrective, but no as principle.
