Dilemmas of Contactology

Summary/Abstract: The Hungarian Bibliography of Romanian Literature, a bilingual publication edited by Sámuel Domokos in the 70s is an inevitable manual of the researchers interested or specialized in the domain of the Romanian–Hungarian literary relations. It was published in two volumes and contains bibliographical titles from the period between 1831 and 1970. Recognizing the necessity of continuing this bibliography, within the framework of a more complex research I’m going to collect and analyze the titles from the next decade, from the 70s. The present paper presents this researching and analyzing process, publishing the first results of the collected data’s analysis. One of the most important realizations in the Romanian–Hungarian contactology from the 70s is connected with the name of the writer engaged in sociography, György Beke, being the first who published a volume of interviews on this topic. The conversations, 56 in number, earlier published in the daily paper called Előre, respectively in the periodicals A Het and Igaz Szó, came out in a volume at Kriterion publishing house that was responsible for the literature of the minorities living in Romania. This study interprets this volume, while focusing on the followings: the aspects of its content, the (re)construction of the interpersonal relationships between the intellectuals interviewed, the characteristics of the interview as genre, the volume’s contemporary reception, as well as the medial change of the published texts. While analyzing the functioning of the relations between the Hungarian and Romanian literature, the study also considers the context of the 70s, being problematic due to the ideologies.
