Summary/Abstract: Work with text in lessons plays an important role in the acquisition and processing of information. Text comprehension is a pre-condition for learning in the majority of areas of education. Interpretation, the comprehension and reading of the meaning of a text, therefore becomes one of the most important skills in the context of all academic disciplines. The data in the article stems from research intended to ascertain whether teachers teach pupils to work with text and to what degree pupils in particular perceive the significance of concrete work with text. The results of the questionnaire-based research not only reveal the current situation but also highlight the needs and requirements of pupils.
