Summary/Abstract: The article deals with the ethnic-pedagogical significance in the training process of students who are prospective teachers of geography. Ethnic-pedagogical assumptions come from upbringing of students in the family, training of the aesthetic taste and feeling thereof, national identity. Folk pedagogy is also closely related to the subject of geography. National traditions, customs, naming of environmental phenomena and features as well as perception of the world are also important sources of the training process. The programme of geographical studies has been extended by such subjects as Toponymics, Ethnic Geography, Physical Geography of Kazakhstan, therefore, the process of studies requires new forms and methods respectively. A particular value in this context is acquired by collection of ethnographic material, systemisation and introduction thereof. We hope that application of ethnic-pedagogical ideas in the studies of geography could contribute to more extensive training of teachers of geography.
