Summary/Abstract: The Proliferation Security Initiative (PSI) is an informal network of states committed to preventing the trafficking of weapons of mass destruction, their delivery systems, and related materials and technologies. The High-Level Political Meeting in Warsaw to commemorate PSI’s 10th anniversary shows that instead of highlighting accomplishments, PSI states are focused on practical means of how to strengthen the relevance of PSI in the ever-evolving fight against WMD proliferation. To improve the Initiative, there is a need to strengthen the legal authority to conduct interdiction operations, extend the PSI network to more states, improve capacity-building efforts, and find practical ways of demonstrating PSI’s effectiveness. The article critically analyses the PSI states’ commitments in these areas and recommends additional steps. It also outlines the Polish contribution to the Initiative.
