Summary/Abstract: The departure of one or both parents to work abroad, in the context of the social and political changes in the last years in Romania, had major effects on the psycho-social and behavioral development of the children left at home. The study was realized on 229 adolescents, from whom 133 are included in the control group and 121 in the experimental group (these have one or both parents working abroad). In what concerns gender, 121 are boys and 108 are girls. The interest variables were: social relationships, assertiveness, aggression, behavioral problems and self-control problems; for the last two variables, the completion of the scales was realized by the teacher (the class-masters of the classes in which the adolescents in the research are studying). Significant differences, according to the type of parenting variable were found for behavioral problems and for self-control problems. Possible implications and the necessary strategies in order to ameliorate these problems are also discussed.
