Smart specialization and their role in designing and implementing of the regional innovation strategy of the Silesian Province

Summary/Abstract: Regional Innovation Strategies (RIS) represent an important instrument supporting innovativeness in a developed economy. Smart specializations play a special role for developing and implementing of RIS. The purpose of the paper is to present the role of smart specialization in the design and implementation of RIS in the Silesia Province. The article presents models and methods for creating and implementing of RSI. .Especially; it shows these elements and processes; which are related to the impact and development of smart specializations. In case of the Silesian region; smart specializations are power industry; medicine and Information and Communication Technology (ICT). The paper is based on research and design works; that resulted in the development of RIS and model for its implementation in the Silesian Province within 2014-2020.
