Directions of improving the flexibility of information system in an organization

Summary/Abstract: Leaders of modern organizations are increasingly dependent on the information needed to perform its key functions, in particular, for strategic decision-making. The main component of the information systems in most enterprises is IT system understood as a group of technical (hardware, software, databases, and network infrastructure) and organizational means (managers, users, administrators). To respond to changes in the environment of the organization, leaders should make changes aimed at adapting the IT system to changing internal and external conditions. The possibility of this adaptation is very often restricted to the distinctive features of the IT system used in an organization. Therefore, it becomes important to search for ways to increase the flexibility of an IT system, to enable it to adapt more easily to changing internal and external conditions. The aim of this paper is to present the role of IT systems in the organization, and to identify and provide directions and measures needed to increase its flexibility.
