Summary/Abstract: From September 19, 1924 to February 17, 1925 Rabindranath Tagore (the anglicised and better known form of Rabīndranāth Ṭhākur) undertook a journey to South America. The Bengali diary which he kept of this journey, Paścim-yātrīr ḍāẏāri “Diary of a Westward Traveller”, was first published serially in the journal Prabāsī in 1924-1925, and then together with the diary of his journey to Java, namely Jābhāyātrīr patra “Letters of a Java-Traveller”, in book form as a part of Yātrī “Traveller” in 1929, a changed second edition of this appearing in 19351.
