Summary/Abstract: As is generally known, in ancient Indian brahmanic culture a righteous man was obliged to aim for four main goals of life (puruṣārthas) namely: dharma, artha, kāma and mokṣa. The fulfillment of these goals made life complete. However, what seems to be worth investigating is the interdependence among them. This article is an attempt to define more precisely, on the basis of chosen examples taken from the Mahābhārata epic, some aspects of the interrelation between dharma and kāma in particular.
