Summary/Abstract: Love, understood as an emotional attitude towards a worshipped god, appears as a very common and important element in the religious traditions of India. The term bhakti, used to denote this attitude, is one of the most characteristic in Hindu religious traditions. Yet bhakti represents a very wide range of meanings and could be translated and interpreted as love towards god, devotion, slave-like attitude towards god or, in general, as a specific attitude, a state of mind which characterizes a pious devotee.
