Summary/Abstract: The paper discusses selected intervention programs carried out, mainly by third sector organizations, among persons involved in prostitution in Poland. In the first part the author presents the phenomenon of prostitution as a social problem as opposed to social pathology; we outline the nature of the phenomenon, its causes, applicable regulations and major data on prostitution practices in Poland. The second part details the description of intervention programs undertaken by non-governmental organizations and presents various aims and means of actions adopted within 12 such initiatives. Moreover, it presents the overview of programs deployed by the groups affiliated to the Catholic Church as well as actions in such areas as the fight against human trafficking andHIV/AIDS prevention among adults and young individuals involved in prostitution. It analyses the fields not covered by those programs together with the consequences of such non-action.
