Summary/Abstract: The first part of the paper presents the characteristics of totalitarian law by Adam Podgórecki and discusses basic features of this law and its actions, such as “subservience” of law, dualism of legal institutions, “supreme principle” of totalitarian law, dominance of the supreme principle over the Constitution, law as the instrument of the “dark” social engineering, totalitarian bureaucracy. The second part aims at illustrating these features through the practice and application of law in the Peoples’ Republic of Poland. Various actions undertaken in the PRP by the representatives of the Catholic Church and society are discussed, including those of the Institute of Social Prevention and Resocialization (IPSiR) at Warsaw University in order to protest against the totalitarization of Polish law and its applications. Author also presents other actions such as protests against totalitarian amendments to the Constitution, protests of students at IPSiR against totalitarian management of universities, proceedings claiming the truth about the “penalty reorganization of IPSiR” ordered by communist authorities, disputes with the communist Censorship, and protests against kangaroo, secret and arbitrary HR policy of communist authorities.
