Summary/Abstract: In accordance with the presidential system of government that exists in the USA and long-standing tradition, role of the First Lady is the most prominent in this country, even though her position, same as in the other countries, is not constitutionalized, nor institutionalized. The significance of the First Lady has been confirmed in practice, since she has her office in the White House, secretariat, personnel, security etc. Also, numerous perquisites are guaranteed to the spouse of the former president. In accordance with the tradition is her role as the hostess of the White House, as well as, participation in organizing humanitarian and charity benefits, which only confirms that her position is of ceremonial nature. This paper, therefore, gives the review of norms in the US law that regulate rights and obligations of presidential spouse, with practical examples that relate to the First Lady’s position.
