Summary/Abstract: While there do appear some anthological classifications, Croatian contemporary poetry is almost without any critical analysis, a systematic elaboration both of contributions and impulses, and insight into dominant interpretations. Himself a poet (Between Two Strong Smokes, 1989), critic and essayist, Kresimir Bagic, who has recently defended his doctoral thesis on the typology of MatoS's and Krleza's polemics, introduces a scientific methodicalness in his lyric creation (Living Languages, 1994), but also a meticulous understanding of image and impression. His comprehensive study concerning the phenomenon ofemptiness in Croatian contemporary poetry connects, from an unusual point of view, deductions of scattered poetics and generation jumps.
