Summary/Abstract: We are living in a videocratic age, i. e. an age of the electronic transmission of messages. The referential fields of images are limited by their strictly iconic nature. What we have is a direct but meagre semantic link: the object = an electronically generated image. Or, alternatively, as far as channels of communication are concerned, their strange graphemic codes, abounding in standardized symbolic meanings, reduce the vastly complex quiddity of the world to a precise mechanical transcription: a fax message, a multitude of black printed cyphers on a reduplicated series of printouts from some uncommonly sensitive printer.
