The Eurosystem and Financial Stability

Summary/Abstract: Achieving financial stability is the main concern of Eurosystem activity. Given the role central banking plays in the economy, the Eurosystem must take the lead in supervising financial institutions. If monetary policy is centralised in the Eurosystem, the supervising of financial institutions is carried out by national organs. This paper presents the Eurosystem’s main achievements in financial stability.
